The Talk
Most businesses begin with an idea.
Mine began with a voice.
My mother was an accomplished public speaker. As dementia gradually took away her ability to communicate, I found myself moving in the opposite direction—joining Toastmasters, practicing speeches, facilitating workshops, and expanding my writing business to include public speaking. What began as a new skill soon became a calling. As a coach for entrepreneurs, I discovered that speaking was one of the most powerful ways to build relationships, share ideas, develop thought leadership, and create opportunities. I also noticed something else: many people struggled to talk about their businesses. They knew their work mattered, but they found it difficult to explain their story, their purpose, and the value they created for others. The more clearly we can articulate who we are, what we do, and why it matters, the easier it becomes to build relationships, pitch opportunities, attract clients, and grow our businesses. I began helping others find their voices too—teaching public speaking, presentation skills, and the confidence to step onto a stage, into a networking event, or across a coffee table conversation. The irony is not lost on me. As a child, I was terrified of being in the spotlight. Today, I help leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals express themselves, share their stories, and speak up even when fear is present. This is a story about communication, courage, and the responsibility we have to use our voices while we still can.
Because every one of us has a voice.
The question is whether we are willing to use it.
