The Speaker

Jon Sparrow is the Founder and CEO of Aperio Mobility, a vertically integrated mobile automotive infrastructure platform operating across North America 63 markets. Built with less than $1M in funding, the company scaled from a single van to servicing major fleets and tens of thousands of vehicles through a proprietary tech and Franchise model and now DSP model.

Based in Winnipeg, John is known for building asset-heavy businesses in a SaaS-obsessed world. He started with no safety net, slept in the office in the early years, bought out his co-founders for $200 each, and rebuilt after customer bankruptcies and stolen software.

He speaks candidly about capital, control, resilience, and building outside the “approved” startup playbook.

The Talk

Everyone talks about raising big rounds and moving fast.

This talk is about what happens when you don’t.

John shares the real story of building a North American mobility infrastructure company from Winnipeg with less than $1M in capital — competing against companies that raised $100M+. From sleeping in the office to buying out co-founders for $200, to surviving major customer bankruptcies, legal fights, and having proprietary software stolen.

He’ll break down:

• Why asset-heavy businesses aren’t “dumb” — they’re defensible
• Why most founders underestimate working capital
• The psychology of resilience when the story isn’t glamorous
• How AI leveled the playing field for a dyslexic founder
• Why building slowly can actually build stronger

This is not a hype talk. It’s a blueprint for founders who don’t fit the mold — and don’t want to.
